He was an intelligent, handsome, caring person with a great sense of humorA lifelong resident of Brick, New Jersey, Jim graduated from Brick High School in 1981 and Monmouth University in 1985. He met his wife Jennifer in 1995, and they were married on May 4, 1996. They continued to live in Brick, and Jim commuted 2 hours to work everyday. He was a devoted son to his mother Geraldine; and a loving brother to Cindy, John, and Loree.Jim had only been employed with eSpeed since December 2000. He was hired to design and implement the second-generation architecture for trading engines. He was an advanced level diver, who never missed an opportunity to explore marine life in the underwater depths of Caribbean, and capture its beauty on film. He and Jennifer would frequently visit Grand Cayman and Bonaire. Jim was working toward becoming a Divemaster and Scuba Instructor, and the couple planned on eventually retiring from their fast-paced professions to start a new diving career in Grand Cayman. Jim also enjoyed other activities such as golf, biking, music, restaurants, Broadway shows, the NY Giants, and spending time with his family. He will live in our hearts forever.

The accident occurred on March 18, 2001, at about midnight, said Maggs. Jackson Police Officer Robert Ventura, 33, in his second year of employment with the township, was driving his Ford Crown Victoria police car east on West Veterans Highway, while Philip Piskin-Cobb, 18, of Jackson, was driving west in a 1991 Honda Accord 4-door sedan.
Ioileff, 45, a bridge inspector, was behind Piskin-Cobb, driving a 1996 Honda Accord station wagon in which his wife, Kathleen, 41, and his sister-in-law, Marie Heiss, 37, of Brick, were passengers.
"The weather conditions were very poor," Maggs said. "It was raining and the roads were extremely slick."
Maggs said independent experts and representatives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Ventura, who was on patrol but not responding to a police call or other emergency, was traveling above the posted 50 mph speed limit.
When Piskin-Cobb made a sudden left turn onto Walter Drive, cutting off the police car, Ventura swerved to avoid hitting Piskin-Cobb, crossed the center of the road and crashed head on into Ioileff’s oncoming Honda.
"It was determined by experts retained by attorneys for Piskin-Cobb that Ventura was traveling between 64 to 70 or more mph when he crossed the yellow divider and entered Mr. Ioileff’s lane of travel," Maggs said.
Maggs said Ioileff’s vehicle was traveling about 40 mph in the inclement weather.
Ventura, Kathleen Ioileff and Heiss all died at the scene of the accident. Ioileff lay in a coma for two months and sustained multiple and permanent injuries, including palsy to the right side of his face, the loss of vision in one eye and associated cognitive problems, the attorney said.Piskin-Cobb’s vehicle was not involved in the collision, but he was initially charged with careless driving. He subsequently pled guilty to a lesser charge of making an unsafe lane change. Part of the agreement was that his guilty plea could not be used in civil litigation, Maggs confirmed

Ira Kaye began the morning as he usually did, by backing his Chrysler Crossfire out of his Rockville garage to drive to the U.S. Treasury Department in the District, where he worked as a lawyer. Moments later, he was dead, killed in an accident that Montgomery County police are calling "truly a tragic set of circumstances."
Police said yesterday that Kaye, 45, stopped the car, apparently to check on something, but did not put it in park. As he was getting out, the car started moving toward his garage, said Lucille Baur, a police spokeswoman.
Kaye's open car door began scraping a Chevrolet Malibu parked in the driveway, Baur said, and he became trapped between the two cars.
The Chrysler continued to roll forward with the driver's door open, apparently dragging Kaye into the garage, where the door scraped a BMW sedan parked to the left. Kaye became trapped between the BMW and the Chrysler, Baur said. Rescue workers pronounced him dead in the garage. Investigators have not determined how fast Kaye's car was going, Baur said.
"He was caught between two cars, making it impossible for him to escape," Baur said. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Kaye served in top-level ethics positions for the federal government, most recently at Treasury. As a deputy assistant general counsel, he managed the department's ethics programs, which included financial disclosures and advice on issues. "He was just one of the nicest persons you could imagine dealing with," said Robert F. Hoyt, general counsel at Treasury.
At the Federal Trade Commission, where he worked earlier, his keen understanding of complicated ethics issues was "unsurpassed," employees were told in an internal tribute yesterday. At the same time, he could laugh at himself, styling some ethics training classes after game shows such as "Jeopardy!," friends and co-workers said.
Kaye grew up in New Jersey, going on to the University of Delaware, where he met Michael Lacey, who would become his partner.
The two moved to Washington in 1985, and Kaye attended George Washington University Law School. At parties, Lacey recalled, Kaye was the kind of person you might sit next to at the end of the night, speak with and say on the way home: "That guy was really interesting. Where was he all night?"
As Lacey and Kaye became interested in adopting a child, they envisioned a life in which the family would eat dinner every night together. The two traveled to Pennsylvania and had a table built by craftsmen who use 18th-century tools.
It was to be the centerpiece of their evenings, and after their son, Zachary, arrived from China about eight years ago, the couple made good on their promise. Even in recent years, with Kaye's high-level jobs, he would get home in time for dinner at 6:30 or 7 five nights a week.
Such was the case Wednesday night. He announced to Lacey and Zachary that the "Festival of Leftovers," which usually took place on Thursdays, would commence a night early.
Yesterday morning, he awoke early, as always, made coffee and left for work.
When Lacey awoke about 6:30 a.m., he noticed that the trash cans had not been moved to the curb, which Kaye would usually do on Thursdays. He saw Kaye's car in the garage and assumed he was still in the house. Lacey looked, couldn't find him and went back to the garage. There, he found his partner of 23 years lifeless between the two cars.
Lacey said he does not know what happened but said he thinks that Kaye had forgotten to put out the garbage cans, got out of his car to do so and, when the car started moving, tried to stop it and became trapped.
"It took a second for this thing to happen," Lacey said, "and our lives are changed forever."

Anyone who knew Jim will always remember him for being a "nice guy", who always had a smile on his face.

Toms River man dies in diving accidentPosted by the Ocean County Observer on 07/10/07BY KIM PREDHAMSTAFF WRITERPOINT PLEASANT BEACH —
Herbert Huhn II was a healthy, strong man of 43, a father of three who spent his days as a fitter/boilermaker.So healthy was Huhn, his wife says, that his death Sunday while scuba diving continues to baffle her."It just doesn't make sense," said Susan Huhn. "It's not normal."Huhn, of Toms River, had enrolled in a seven-week scuba diving course with Underwater Discovery in Toms River.Sunday was his final class, Susan said, and he was diving with other students off Gull Island County Park in the Manasquan River."It's an area where there are frequently a lot of recreational divers," said Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Daniel DePolo.Shortly before 1:50 p.m., Huhn became separated from his diving partner for a "matter of a couple minutes," said DePolo. When his partner told the instructor that he had become separated from Huhn, the instructor pulled Huhn out of the water, said DePolo.Divers and police tried to resuscitate Huhn, but he ultimately died around 2:25 p.m., not long after he was transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick by the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, DePolo said."It's not fair," said Susan Huhn, speaking by phone yesterday about her husband. Both Brick natives, the Huhns had bought their home in Toms River about 11 years ago, Susan said. Huhn was employed as a fitter/boilermaker for Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). They had three children — ages 17, 19 and 26 — and one granddaughter."My granddaughter absolutely loved Pop Pop," said Susan, her voice breaking as she spoke.Susan remembered her husband as a hard worker, who cared about everybody. Scuba diving was his newest fixation, Susan said. He couldn't wait to get his diving certification."He just found it fascinating," said Susan. "He just thought it was the coolest thing."Susan, on the other hand, wasn't so sure about her husband's new hobby."I didn't really like my husband doing this," she said. "But he wanted to do it and I went along with it."Despite her grief, Susan said she does not blame his diving partner. And she stopped short of criticizing the dive company for her husband's death."They supposedly did everything they could," Susan said.A message left at the company yesterday afternoon was not returned.Huhn's death remained a mystery yesterday. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed yesterday afternoon, DePolo said.Officers were still investigating the incident yesterday, and DePolo said they had not determined a cause of death.Point Pleasant Beach Officers Marc Salemi and Frank Finn responded to the incident Sunday, assisted by Detective Patrick Petruzziello, DePolo said. The Prosecutor's Office, the Sheriff's Department, the New Jersey State Police and MONOC paramedics also responded.
